Clutch Reissues: The Groove Triumvirate

Every once in a while, we post a well written pc on a current Weathermaker project. Here is an abbreviated version of an article written by JJ Koczan of The Obelisk.net, and NJ’s Arts/Aquarian Weekly. Enjoy!

Clutch Reissues: The Groove Triumvirate

Of the to-date nine albums in the discography of Maryland groove rockers Clutch, the three full-lengths they released on DRT Records represents in many ways their most interesting and expansive stretch of material. From 2004-2007, Clutch released three highly-varied albums and began the process of maturing from their rougher-hewn, heavier early days into the blues rock powerhouse they’ve since become. This period of the four-piece’s development is captured on three distinct CD reissues from their own Weathermaker Music label, boasting double-disc, expanded-digipak artwork editions of Blast Tyrant (2004), Robot Hive/Exodus (2005) and From Beale Street to Oblivion (2007), along with a companion disc of bonus material from each. The band’s legal disagreements with DRT – the label headed by Gentle Giant multi-instrumentalist Derek Schulman – resulting in their reclamation of the rights to the albums here find their resolution. One recalls that From Beale Street to Oblivion originally came in a jewel case with the artwork so misplaced that Clutch elected to sell the Canadian version on tour. Well, with the Weathermaker versions of these records, that won’t be an issue. From the art (gorgeous for each) to the releases themselves to the fan-gem bonus discs, these are about as complete documents as longtime followers of the band could ever hope for. Read More

The Assassin, the Actor, and the touring Rock & Roll band.

CLUTCH with Corrosion of Conformity/Flogging Molly. US tour less than 2 weeks away!

July 20th is approaching quickly! On that day, Clutch will begin a fast and furious mid-summer headline tour. Featuring 11 shows in 11 days, Clutch’s 3rd US concert tour of the year features the legendary Corrosion of Conformity as main support on most of the dates; but there are also two gigs where Clutch will support Flogging Molly. There will also be two partyboat cruise concerts and an outdoor radio festival.

To celebrate this forthcoming rock & roll US tour, here is an amazing audio clip from Clutch’s previous tour in May, where the band performed an acoustic style concert
at Greenville South Carolina’s Earshot Music and Movies in support of the Basket of Eggs/Blast Tyrant double disc re-issue.

CLUTCH’S FIRST EVER ACOUSTIC IN-STORE/RETAIL PERFORMANCE!

Clutch just released the details of their first ever acoustic instore performance. It will also mark their first instore signing appearance in over 5 years. This very unique event will take place on Saturday May 28th at Earshot Music & Movies during their North American headlining tour-stop in Greenville, SC. They will perform a set of acoustic style music mostly from the “Basket of Eggs” bonus disc fro Blast Tyrant’s deluxe reissue, prior to their concert at The Handlebar that evening. The charitable food pantry Loaves and Fishes will also be on-site that afternoon collecting canned food and non-perishables for the region’s recent weather related victims. Earshot and Weathermaker Music will set up a large Food Basket inside the retailer and those who donate a canned or non-perishable food item will receive a free tour poster from Clutch and be first in line for the band to autograph it after their acoustic performance.

In its first 6 days on the shelves, Blast Tyrant deluxe reissue sold close to 3000 copies nationally, landing it an upper echelon re-debut at #26 on the Billboard Hard Rock Top 100, more than 7 years after the original version debuted at #15. The double disc package, which features the “Basket of Eggs” bonus CD, triumphed in the Northeast, where it broke into the Top 10 at the mammoth Newbury Comics chain, and was the #1 selling double disc.
